"Several cosmetic products, which were not approved by the FDA, have entered the Philippine market. These products have been banned in the Philippines," said FDA acting Director Dr. Kenneth Go in an advisory.
The FDA noted that the products were found to be containing mercury contents beyond the 1ppm (parts per million) allowable by the agency.
Go noted that among the possible adverse health effects of mercury in cosmetic products are kidney damage, skin rashes, skin discoloration, scarring as well as anxiety, depression or psychosis, peripheral neuropathy, and neurodevelopment deficits for fetuses of pregnant women. (HDT/Sunnex)
