Oil spill in Leyte contained

AUTHORITIES have contained an oil spill from a listing vessel in a port in Leyte province, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Tuesday.
MV Ocean Legacy loaded with about 110 containers was supposed to unload five of them in Port of Ormoc when it listed on its port side on December 29.
Spillage of bunker oil was seen in the area, prompting authorities to deploy boom on the port side of the vessel to trap the spill.
Additional oil spill combating equipment from Petron Depot Ormoc arrived with two bundles of absorbent pad, two pieces of back pack sprayer, two bundles of absorbent boom, one drum of chemical dispersant, and five segments of oil spill boom.
MV Ocean Legacy is a steel hulled cargo vessel of 2,864.00 gross tonnages, owned and operated by Oceanic Container Lines Inc.
Skippered by Captain Junte C. Eslawan, the said vessel was manned by a total of 29 officers, including onboard crew. (SDR/Sunnex)
