CEBU CITY (Updated 12:40 p.m.) -- Acting Cebu Governor Agnes Magpale asked the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) to replace provincial treasurer Roy Salubre due to lack of trust and the recent lapses in his work.
Magpale said in a press conference that she wrote to BLGF to appoint a new treasurer for the province of Cebu but pending the replacement, the assistant provincial treasurer takes over.
"I want to have people I can trust and rely. I lost my trust and confidence in him," Magpale said.
Salubre, in a separate interview, said he will accept Magpale's wishes and will step down once he receives the order from the BLGF.
The acting Cebu governor said the cash balance report submitted by Salubre last month was not accurate. She also wanted to have a cash examination of Capitol's finances.
Salubre insisted, however, that his report was accurate and Capitol's finances are intact.
The acting governor threatened to fire Salubre last month when the provincial treasurer failed to report to her despite several calls for his appearance.
Salubre eventually reported to her before the deadline set for his appearance.
Meanwhile, plywoods blocking windows of suspended Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia's office were removed Wednesday.
The plywoods were installed Monday to block the windows while the Capitol passageways were padlocked when members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) team manned Capitol gates early Monday morning. (Sunnex)
