Coast Guard units alerted for brewing storm

THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) directed Wednesday all its units to be ready for the upcoming rains and possible flashfloods, which will be brought by a weather disturbance.
PCG Commandant Rear Admiral Rodolfo Isorena ordered all PCG units to prepare for the low pressure area (LPA) as it approaches the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
All the in-charge district commanders in the areas affected were also asked to coordinate with their counterpart in the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council for the rescue and assistance activities.
Isorena also reminded the boat operators with open deck, and fishermen in the areas not directly affected by the weather disturbance to exercise extra diligence in sailing and to monitor weather development as sea condition will be rough. They were also advised to always wear safety gear while at sea.
The Coast Guard chief said all shipping vessels are not permitted to travel once the LPA developed into a tropical depression and public storm warning signals are already hoisted by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in the areas that will be affected by the weather disturbance.
