MANILA -- The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Mimaropa announced that workers in the region are set to receive additional pay beginning the end of January after it approved a new wage order.
According to the order published Thursday, a wage hike amounting from P5 to P66 has been approved for workers in the provinces of Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.
"The Board deemed it wise to increase the minimum wage so that it reaches a decent level above the poverty threshold but still be reasonable, moderate and equitable," said the Wage Order 6.
The increase shall cover all minimum wage earners in the private sector except domestic helpers, family drivers and Barangay Micro-Business Enterprise workers.
Based on the order, the region's non-agricultural workers will have a basic pay of P255 while those in the agricultural sector will have P215.
For those in first class municipalities, non-agricultural workers will have a basic pay of P260 while those in the agricultural sector will have P215.
As for highly-urbanized cities, non-agricultural workers will have a basic pay of P275 while those in the agricultural sector will have P225.
The last wage order in the region was issued November 11, 2010. (HDT/Sunnex)
