Turnover at Basilica

CEBU CITY -- Holy images do have turnover ceremonies.
In this year's celebration, the Augustinian Fathers made official the turnover of post at the Basilica while the holy image goes out for the foot procession.
The Sto. Nino image at the Basilica Minore is known as the Capitan Heneral, while the Sto. Nino image of San Nicolas Parish is called Teniente dela Guardia.
At 1 p.m. Saturday, Capital Heneral turned over the fort to Teniente dela Guardia while he went out for the solemn procession.
Fr. Jonas Mejares, rector of the Basilica Minore, also turned over the Basilica flag to Monsignor Trinidad Silva, the parish priest of San Nicolas Parish.
The Teniente dela Guardia holds the fort and watches over the Basilica, while the Capitan Heneral is out for the procession.
While the foot procession is ongoing, devotees inside the pilgrim center pray the rosary and wait for the return of the Capitan Heneral.
A concelebrated mass will follow after the foot procession. (MVG/Mariz Puyo/Sunnex)
