6 killed, 40,272 families affected due to floods - NDRRMC

MANILA -- The death toll from the strong rains brought by the tail-end of a cold front rose to six while more than 40,000 families were affected, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday.
In its update, NDRRMC identified the latest fatalities as Lord Anthony Gallarde from Compostella Valley; Herbert Solidum and Danny Nuñez, both from Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro, who all died due to drowning.
NDRRMC also said that four persons were missing and six people were injured.
NDRRMC said the floods affected 40, 272 families or 150,521 persons in 99 towns, two cities, 17 municipalities in six provinces of Region 11 (Davao Region) and Region 12 (SOCCSKARGEN).
Of these, 15,964 families or 66,316 people are staying in 71 evacuation centers.
The disaster agency said 21 houses were destroyed while 200 others were damaged in Kapalong in Davao del Norte and in Bagumbayan in Sultan Kudarat while a total of P80,000 cost of damages of houses in Davao del Norte was also reported.
Barangay Kapalong Pasbangan and Mankilam in Tagum City in Davao del Norte and some barangays in Braullo E. Dujali in Davao del Norte are experiencing power blackouts, NDRRMC said.
Meanwhile, NDRRMC added that 15 barangays in Davao City were placed under a state of calamity as of Tuesday. These are Barangays Tigatto, Maa, 19-B, 74-A, 5-A, Mandug, Waan, 8-A, 9, 10, 1-A, 2-A, 76-A, Lasang and Calinan. (PNA)
