MANILA -- Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima has approved the filing of administrative charges against the police personnel who were involved in the Quezon shooting earlier this month.
The charges, which were recommended by the PNP Internal Affairs Service, are against 22 police personnel who will be held in restrictive custody in Camp Crame including Senior Superintendent Valeriano de Leon and Chief Superintendent James Melad.
Valeriano and Melad, the former director of the Calabarzon regional police office, had been relieved from their posts along with other police personnel involved in the shooting on January 6.
The PNP earlier found out that the involved cops who were then manning a checkpoint violated operational procedures such as the lack of marked police vehicle and uniformed personnel.
The incident killed 13 suspected criminals including policemen and soldiers. (Emmanuel Louis Bacani/Sunnex)
