3 rebels killed in Zamboanga del Sur clash

AT least three communist rebels were killed in a clash with government troops in Zamboanga del Sur on Wednesday, the Philippine Army (PA) said.
Members of the 14th Scout Ranger Company clashed with unspecified number of New People's Army (NPA) bandits in Sitio Maimbung, Barangay Mati, Tigbao town around 3 p.m. yesterday, according to PA spokesman Major Harold Cabunoc.
The rangers killed three bandits and seized three high-powered firearms including an M14 rifle and an AK 47.
Eight wounded rangers were transferred to the nearest hospital for treatment.
Pursuit operations are ongoing, Cabunoc said.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that an armed encounter transpired on January 22 between NPA bandits and elements of the military's 57th Infantry Battalion in Brgy. Cabilao, Makilala, North Cotabato.
