MANILA -- The total number of arrested people in the poll gun ban has increased to 154 as authorities continue to conduct checkpoints this election period, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

Latest data from the agency show that 143 civilians, five security guards, four government employees, and two PNP personnel were found carrying firearms, deadly weapons and explosives.

Some 139 firearms have been confiscated so far along with 186 ammunition and 10 grenades and explosives.

At least 41 bladed weapons and two firearm replicas were also seized.

Among those recently arrested for violating the poll gun ban was Edwin Culod, 49, resident of Barangay San Vicente, Butuan City, who was caught carrying an unlicensed firearm in a drugstore in the said city.

Prior to his arrest, Culod reportedly had a heated argument with a certain Gerlie Escatron.

Culod, who is now temporarily detained at Butuan City Police Station 2, allegedly threatened using his caliber .38 revolver with five live ammunition against Escatron.

Director General Alan Purisima, PNP chief, assured that the police force will remain vigilant in its security operations during the election period amid the several reports of gun ban violations and poll-related violence in different provinces.(Emmanuel Louis Bacani/Sunnex)
