Prosecutor in court shooting still can’t see

MANILA -- The bullet lodged in the nape of Assistant Cebu City Prosecutor Maria Theresa Casiño apparently affected her sight, the head of the National Prosecution Service said Thursday.
Prosecutor General Claro Arellano, however, told reporters that Casiño can already talk and move while recuperating at a private hospital.
Casiño was the third person shot by Canadian John Pope on Tuesday at the Marcelo Fernan Palace of Justice before he took his life after failing to escape arrest by responding policemen.
As the incident received back-to-back condemnation and opened up the issue of lax security in courts, Arellano asked the government to strictly enforce a no-firearms policy for all those entering any public building.
For now, he said some prosecutors are already raising funds to help Casiño's family. This will be on top of the P100,000-donation set to be turned over by the Prosecutors' League of the Philippines. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
