282 poll gun ban violators arrested

MANILA -- Two weeks after its commencement, the election gun ban has netted 282 violators as authorities continue to conduct checkpoints to ensure security this election period, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
In an update, the PNP said the arrested violators as of 8 a.m., January 28 include 246 civilians, 22 security guards, six government employees and six PNP personnel who were caught carrying firearms, deadly weapons and explosives amid the poll gun ban.
A total of 242 firearms have been confiscated along with 1,145 ammunition, 65 bladed weapons, 18 explosives, and four gun replicas.
The PNP said among the gun ban violators was Jose Arevalo, 31, who was arrested on January 26 along A. Guzman St., Barangat Concepcion Uno, Marikina City for the crime of frustrated murder.
Recovered from his possession was one improvised handgun and four improvised ammunition.
Director General Alan Purisima, PNP chief, assured that the police force "will remain vigilant" in its security efforts for the upcoming polls.
