PH to be firm in negotiations for grounded US ship

TRANSPORTATION and Communications Secretary Emilio Abaya assured that the Philippine government will be firm on its stand in the negotiations with the United States regarding the damages when its ship ran aground on the Tubbataha reef.
Abaya said the US needs to pay for the damages to the natural resources by the grounded minesweeper vessel USS Guardian.
However, he said that for now it is vital to remove the warship as soon as possible.
He said damages can be later assessed and necessary investigation can be done once the ship will be successfully removed from the reef.
The secretary said he is not sure how much is the extent of the damage to marine resource is. (Sunnex with wire reports)
