MANILA -- A detained American and a Chinese national were caught in possession of 10 grams of shabu, inside a detention facility in Taguig City, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said Tuesday.
PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo Cacdac Jr. identified the foreign nationals as Tigor Hasonangan Shianipar, an American national who is facing charges for illegal drugs; and Shutak Mui, alias Allan Lee, a Chinese national who is facing charges for illegal possession of firearms.
Both suspects are detainees of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Detention Center in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City.
PDEA operatives and BI personnel conducted a greyhound operation on January 25, which resulted in the discovery of several sachets of shabu and assorted drug paraphernalia inside their detention cell.
"The greyhound operation was hatched upon BI's request to ensure that detainees are not using illegal drugs and to prevent possible illegal drug transactions and activities between detained pushers and their companions outside the jail," Cacdac said. (SDR/Sunnex)
