COTABATO CITY -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) office here has reported the successful field testing of Precinct Count Optical Scanners (PCOS) machines in the areas of Maguindanao province and Cotabato City.

The PCOS machine testing was initiated Thursday in preparation for the upcoming May 15 midterm polls this year.

Despite delays in transmission of results due to signal problems from telecommunication networks, Comelec Maguindanao Provincial Supervisor Atty. Udtog Tago said the test was a “success.”

Two of the PCOS machines were tested in Sultan Kudarat town in Maguindanao, particularly in Barangays Bulalo and Barangay Kalsada. In Cotabato City, two other machines were tested in Poblacion 6 and Barangay Rosary Heights 4.

“There are about 865 PCOS machines or one per polling precinct up for distribution in Maguindanao,” Tago said.

He added that with 502 voting centers in the province, either three or four machines would be assigned in clustered precincts.

Moreover, the poll official said that Comelec is all set for the Feb. 2 nationwide mock elections.

In the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm), the mock exercises would be held in Buluan, Maguindanao and Bongao, Tawi-Tawi. This would allow 50 registered voters from the Certified Voter’s List per area to cast their votes. (PNA)
