MANILA -- As the present 15th Congress goes into break this weekend, the Speaker of the House of Representatives has surrendered on the proposed freedom of information (FOI) bill.

"It's very unlikely that it (FOI) will be approved before we adjourn on Wednesday," House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. said in an ambush interview.

"There's that slim chance to have it passed (even if the President certifies it)," he added.

The FOI bill was sponsored in the plenary last week when the House of Representatives was able to constitute a quorum. Interpellation on the said measure, however, has not started since.

The Senate has already approved its version of the FOI bill. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
