MANILA -- Malacanang reassured Monday that there will be no whitewash in the investigation on the Atimonan incident as President Benigno Aquino III is expected to receive the report this week.
"The apprehensions are unfounded," said Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda, in a regular news briefing, on concern that there could be whitewash on the probe that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has been conducting for almost a month already.
"The Secretary of Justice will submit the report this week to the President. That's something I can assure you," he added.
Thirteen people, including police and military personnel, were killed in the Atimonan, Quezon, incident, which the police in the area called as a shootout.
But there were those who claimed that the incident could be a rubout, prompting Aquino to order an investigation to the NBI.
With several reports coming out on the alleged NBI findings, Lacierda said that Justice Secretary Leila de Lima gave strict instructions to the NBI that there should be no leakage.
NBI is an attached agency of the Department of Justice. (SDR/Sunnex)
