MANILA -- Amid the ongoing election gun ban, a mayor from Ilocos Norte province was shot by two motorcycle-riding gunmen on Monday afternoon.
Television reports said Marcos town mayor Salvador Pillos survived but sustained gunshot wounds on his arm and leg. He was reportedly inspecting a construction project when he was waylaid by the suspects.
The ambush on Pillos happened about two weeks after Mayor Erlinda Domingo of Maconacon, Isabela, was shot dead in Quezon City.
The attack also occurred during the implementation of the election gun ban that has netted nearly 500 violators including law enforcers, according to the police. (Emmanuel Louis Bacani/Sunnex)
