Gun ban violators rise to 524

MANILA -- The number of arrested violators of the poll gun ban has breached the 500 mark as authorities continue to conduct checkpoints to ensure security during the election period, latest data from the Philippine National Police (PNP) show.
In an update, the PNP said the checkpoints and on-the-spot gun check operations from January 15 to February 5 led to the arrest of 524 individuals including 468 civilians, eight government employees, 10 police and one military personnel, 35 security guards, and one fire bureau personnel.
Among the recent violators was Marvin Mangili, 22, who was arrested on February 3 in Barangay Mungayang, Kiangan town, Ifugao. Prior to his arrest, Mangili fired his gun five times, police said.
Authorities have also confiscated 464 firearms, 2,422 pieces of ammunition, 16 grenades and six other explosives.
