Tsunami warning in PH lifted

MANILA (Updated) – Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) cancelled its tsunami warning over the country after a magnitude 8.0 earthquake off Solomon Islands.
"Alert Cancellation: The tsunami alert for the M8.0 9:17AM Sta Cruz Islands, Solomon Islands earthquake for the Philippines is now cancelled," Phivolcs said in its Twitter account, @phivolcs_dost.
Also, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii cancelled tsunami warnings and watches for all areas in the South Pacific.
Phivolcs had placed 19 areas in the country under tsunami alert level 1 on Wednesday following the earthquake that occurred near Santa Cruz Island at 9:12 a.m. (Philippine Time) with depth of 33 kilometers and a preliminary magnitude of 8.0.
Wire reports said that a small tsunami measuring 0.9 meters or three feet hit the Solomon Islands after the tremor. There was no report of damage or casualty. (Sunnex)
