MANILA -- Three Chinese nationals facing drug charges were forcibly taken by a group of armed men while they were on their way to attend a court hearing in Cavite on Wednesday morning, a police official said.
Calabarzon Regional Police Director Benito Estipona identified the three Chinese nationals as Li Tian Hua, Wang Li Na and Li Lan Yan.
Citing initial reports, Estipona said the four were "abducted" by at least 20 heavily armed men at the vicinity of Trece Martires City around 10 a.m. while being escorted by four provincial guards.
Estimona said they were being transported to attend a hearing at the Trece Martires court where they are facing a drug-related case.
Estipona said the guns of the provincial guards were taken away by the suspects, who fled aboard a white van, with plate number WTT 544, with the Chinese nationals. The vehicle was later recovered by authorities.
"Hot pursuit operations are still on progress," said Estipona. (VR/Sunnex)
