'Argo,' Daniel Day-Lewis lead winners in 85th Oscars

THE man who played the life of one of America's most revered leaders took his third Best Actor trophy in the 85th Academy Awards on Sunday night (Monday morning in Manila).

Daniel Day-Lewis earned raves for his performance in "Lincoln", which tackled the life of the late US President Abraham Lincoln who was credited for ending slavery of African-Americans in the 1860s.

Jennifer Lawrence, meanwhile, was named Best Actress in "Silver Linings Playbook".

Oscar favorite Anne Hathaway bagged the Best Supporting Actress award for her role as Fantine in movie musical "Les Miserables" while Christoph Waltz won the Best Supporting Actor trophy for "Django Unchained".

Director Ang Lee went home with his second Oscar trophy, this time for "Life of Pi", while Grant Heslov, George Clooney and Ben Affleck's "Argo" was named Best Picture.

Best Original Song: "Skyfall" by Adele

Held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, the Academy recognized the best Hollywood films of 2012.
