HACIENDA LUISITA, Tarlac City -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) on Wednesday posted the names of the 6,212 farmers qualified as Hacienda Lusita beneficiaries that would be awarded parcels of land under the Comprehensive Agrarian reform Program (Carp).
DAR Sec. Virgilio delos Reyes led the posting of the final masterlist in all the barangays encompassing the sprawling sugarcane plantation estate owned by the family of President Benigno S. Aquino III.
Delos Reyes said the 6,435-hectare Hacienda would be subdivided into 6,212 lots after subtracting the areas of parcels of land holding common facilities such as roads and irrigation canals, among others.
DAR hopes to distribute the land to the qualified beneficiaries by May or June in accordance with its self-imposed deadline, Delos Reyes said.
Hacienda Luisita is composed of 10 barangays (villages) in three municipalities in the province of Tarlac namely: Barangays Cut-Cut 1, Bantog, Balete, Asturias, Lourdes and Mapalacsiao in Tarlac City; Parang, Pando and Mabilog in the town of Concepcion; and Barangay Motrico in La Paz town.
It is as large as the cities of Makati and Pasig combined. (PNA)
