QUEZON -- President Benigno Aquino III on Monday warned politicians against using the government's conditional cash transfer (CCT) program to get voters' support for the midterm polls in May.
Speaking before a crowd at the Gumaca National High School here, Aquino urged voters to junk candidates who use the multi-billion cash dole-out program as a means to buy votes in the local level.
"Kung may nagsasabing politiko na matatanggalan kayo ng rehistro sa pantawid pamilya pag di niyo sila binoto, ako na mismo nagsasabi na hindi sila mananalo. Sila ang tatanggalin natin sa pwesto (Do not vote for politicians who threatens your removal from the 4Ps list, let me assure you that they will not win in the elections. We will remove them from their post)," Aquino said.
The government has allotted P44 billion for the CCT program being implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps.
Aquino stressed that the 4Ps is no "hocus pocus" (trickery).
The Liberal Party (LP) is fielding Quezon Representative Irvin Alcala against re-electionist provincial governor Jay-jay Suarez, the son of House Minority Leader Danilo Suarez.
The elder Suarez earlier called on the Aquino administration to suspend the CCT program to avoid being used as the campaign kitty of the the ruling party. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
