MANILA -- The convoy of Cagayan Representative Jack Enrile was allegedly fired upon by unidentified gunmen in Compostela Valley on Tuesday.
No one was killed or injured in the incident, said provincial police director Senior Supt. Camile Cascolan.
Cascolan said Enrile's convoy was passing a highway in Sitio Banga in Mawab town around 3:15 p.m. when a sniper fire was heard.
Cascolan said a police team, aboard a prowl car, task to secure Enrile heard the shot coming from a mountainous area.
"Upon reaching Tagum City, the troops check the vehicle (of Enrile's escorts) and found out that their vehicle was hit at the front passenger side near the door knob and recovered part of a slug," the official said.
"PNP personnel of Mawab Municipal Station are conducting investigation to determine the motive of the incident and identity of suspects," said Cascolan.
He said the recovered slug will be turned over to the Scene or the Crime Office of the Philippine National Police for investigation.
Enrile, son of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, is running for senator under the United Nationalist Alliance. (VR/Sunnex)
