Cotabato quake hurts 2-A A +A

CARMEN, North Cotabato (Updated, 11:20 a.m.) -- At least two persons were hurt and a bridge was damaged here after a magnitude-5.7 earthquake hit Central Mindanao Saturday night.
The personnel of the provincial Office of Civil Defense in North Cotabato are still conducting assessment and evaluation of the damages brought about by the earthquake traced about 12 kilometers northeast of this town.
The quake that struck at 10:10 p.m. Saturday also hurt two farmers who were hit by fallen debris during the tremor, residents said. The two sustained minor injuries.
Carmen Vice Mayor Moises Arendain reported the concrete Kimadzil bridge in the village of Kimadzil had cracks, and landslides were noted along Sayre highway, the main road artery connecting North Cotabato and Bukidnon provinces.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said two aftershocks of magnitude-4.3 were recorded at 11:45 p.m. Saturday and 7:58 a.m. Sunday.
The first quake was felt at Intensity 5 in Carmen, and nearby Kabacan, North Cotabato; Intensity 4 in President Roxas and Midsayap, both in North Cotabato and Tacurong City; Intensity 3 in Ozamis City, Cotabato City, Tampakan, South Cotabato, Makilala and Magpet in North Cotabato; Intensity 2 in Mlang and Tulunan, both in North Cotabato; Camiguin island, General Santos City, Malaybalay City, Misamis Oriental, Padada, Davao del Sur and Intensity 1 in Dipolog City.
Officials said the North Cotabato-Bukidnon Sayre highway remained passable. (PNA/Sunnex)
