Metro Manila cities suspend classes until Friday-A A +A

(4TH UPDATE) The City Governments of Makati and Valenzuela have announced the suspension of classes Thursday (August 22) until Friday (August 23).
In Mandaluyong City, Mayor Benhur Abalos declared no classes in preschool to high school (both public and private) for Thursday only.
In Paranaque City, on the other hand, Mayor Edwin Olivarez ordered the suspension of classes in all levels also on Thursday.
Through its Twitter account, @MakatiInfo, the Makati City Information Department said Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. has suspended classes in all levels both for public and private schools.
"Mayor Jun Binay has suspended classes in all levels in Makati -public and private- until Friday to allow students, parents, and teachers to recover from the effects of the flooding," one post said.
Several barangays in Makati suffered heavy floods triggered by monsoon rain strengthened by tropical storm "Maring" (international name: Trami).

Mayor Binay and his father, former Makati Mayor and Vice President Jejomar Binay, were earlier seen going around Makati to help in rescuing residents trapped by the floods.
Classes in all levels in St. Scholastica's College are also suspended Thursday, the Office of the School President announced, although office operations are already set to resume.
In Valenzuela City, Mayor Rex Gatchalian said classes in preschool, daycare, elementary and high school in public and private schools and the city-owned tertiary schools will be suspended Thursday and Friday.

Gatchalian said the suspension includes classes at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela and Valenzuela Polytechnic College.
He added that since August 26 (Monday) is a regular holiday (National Heroes Day), classes will all resume on August 27 (Tuesday).
Mandaluyong and Paranaque also announced on Twitter the suspension of classes.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, 1,098 families were affected by the floods in Makati. Some 317 families were affected in Valenzuela and 584 in Mandaluyong. (Kathrina Alvarez/JK/Sunnex)
