Fire hits Cebu village-A A +A

CEBU (Updated, 3:40 p.m.) – A fire hit a residential area in sitio Bagong Buhay, Carreta village in Cebu City on Sunday.
Senior Fire Officer 3 Emiliano Dano said the City Fire Station received the alarm at 2:18 p.m. and responded to the area in less than three minutes.
Residents in the fire-hit area said they heard a loud blast before they saw the huge fire shortly after. Dano said the fire fighters had a hard time entering the area because of narrow entrance and of the people who were running around to save their belongings.
"Ang ka gamay sa dan ug ang mga tao pud ga sigeg hinakutay maoy makapa-babag sa atong operation," Dano said.
Initial report said the fire razed 14 houses and it allegedly started from the house of Michael James Durano. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

"Abe man namo'g naay armas pero nikayo man dayon, kusog kaayo ni katag ang kayo," said Diday Boanghud, a resident in the barangay for 32 years. Boanghud's house was razed and her family was not able to save any of their belongings.
A 67-year-old resident, Vicente Durano, was injured after sustaining a burn on his back. He said he was running on his way out from his house when fire debris fell off his back.
Fire fighting units from Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu cities helped to put out the fire, which was declared under control at 2:54 p.m. (NMP/Sunnex)
