MANILA (Updated 5:42 p.m.) -- The Low Pressure Area spotted earlier at 340 kilometers (km) east of Dinagat Island developed into a cyclone and is now named Tropical Depression Nando, said the state weather bureau.
In its 5:00 p.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Nando was estimated at 250 km East of Borongan City, Eastern Samar. It is forecast to move north northwest at 13 kph.
Pagasa also said Nando is expected to be 270 km East of Virac, Catanduanes Monday morning, and at 340 km East of Casiguran Aurora Tuesday morning. If it will not change its course, Nando is expected to be at 310 km Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan by Wednesday morning.
While the state weather bureau said that Nando is not expected to make landfall in the Philippines, it still cautioned residents against the rain that the cyclone might bring.
If it will not change its course, Nando is expected to intensify further and enhance the Southwest Monsoon, bringing rain to Western Visayas and Southern Luzon.
The cyclone packs winds of 45 kph near the center and contains rainfall of about 5 to 15 millimeter per hour within its 300 km diameter.
Pagasa also has not yet raised public storm warning signal over any area as of press time.
Meanwhile, in an earlier radio interview. Pagasa weather forecaster Jori Loiz said that participants in the anti-pork barrel rally in Luneta should still bring umbrellas as they might experience light rain, together with other parts of Metro Manila Monday morning.
The entire week may also be rainy, Pagasa said.
Eastern Visayas and Bicol region shall expect cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rain showers and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and the rest of Visayas and Mindanao will also have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
The state weather bureau also said that the skies of the remaining part of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms. (Sunnex)
