‘Nando’ maintains strength, signal 1 up in 4 areas-A A +A

MANILA (Updated 1:39 p.m.) - Tropical Depression Nando has maintained its strength and is now moving in a northwest direction Monday and the state weather bureau hoisted public storm warning signal 1 over four areas.
At 10:00 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) spotted Nando at 480 kilometers (km) east of Baler, Aurora. It is moving at 15 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum winds of 55 kph near the center.
Pagasa hoisted public storm warning signal 1 over Batanes, Cagayan, Babuyan and Calayan groups of islands on Monday. These areas should expect winds of up to 60 kph within the next 36 hours.
Nando remains less likely to make landfall in the Philippines. The US Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) said that while its wind speed remain weak near its center, Nando may further intensify within 24 hours.
Pagasa said Tropical Depression Nando is expected to be at 340 km east of Casiguran, Aurora by Monday evening, and at 340 km east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan by Tuesday evening. Nando is also expected to be at 420 km Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes by Wednesday evening.
Pagasa also said the skies of Bicol Region, Calabarzon, Aurora will be cloudy with moderate to heavy rain showers and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
Metro Manila, Quirino, Isabela and Nueva Vizcaya, the rest of Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Visayas, Zamboanga peninsula, Caraga and Northern Mindanao shall experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms, it added.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, Pagasa also said. (Sunnex)
