Aquino won't proceed on his China trip next week-A A +A
Thursday, August 29, 2013
PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III will no longer attend the 10th China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO) in China next week, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday.
DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez said that the cancellation of the President's trip was made on the request of China.
"The President has decided not to proceed to CAEXPO taking into consideration China's request for the President to visit China at a more conducive time," he said.
With China's decision, Hernandez said that the Philippines will continue to abide by "principled position that bilateral relations can advance despite differences."
The Philippines and China have been embroiled in a territorial row over the group of islands, shoals and atolls in West Philippine Sea.
It was Aquino who confirmed on Wednesday of his supposed trip to Nanning, China to attend the opening of CAEXPO on September 3. The Philippines is the "country of honor" for this year's CAEXPO. (SDR/Sunnex)
