Town councilor wounded, pal killed in ambush-A A +A

ZAMBOANGA CITY – An elected official of a town in Zamboanga del Sur has survived although wounded while his companion was killed in an ambush Wednesday, the police reported.
Wounded was Pitogo Municipal Councilor Noel Mojillo, who is president of the Liga ng mga Barangay, while his companion Edgen Aguilar was killed on the spot, said Zamboanga Peninsula police spokesman Ariel Huesca.
Huesca said the victims were ambushed around 7:30 a.m. of Wednesday at Purok Caimito in the village of Poblacion, Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur.
Huesca said that investigation showed the victims were aboard travelling to the village of Liguac when they were ambushed by at least seven gunmen.
He said that several empty shells of M-14 and M-16 rifles were recovered by the responding policemen at the crime scene but the suspects were gone when they arrived.
He said investigation is being conducted to establish the motive of the incident and identify suspects. (Bong Garcia)
