A MAKATI City court on Friday granted the request of businesswoman Janet Napoles to be arraigned for serious illegal detention charges on September 23.
Napoles was earlier scheduled to enter her plea on the case on Monday (September 9) before the Makati City Regional Trial Court branch 150 but her camp filed motions including the bill of particulars, which contains the information on the case leveled against her and brother Reynald Lim.
The siblings were accused of detaining pork barrel scam whistleblower Benhur Luy for three months supposedly to stop him from reporting his knowledge about the transfer of billions of pesos in public funds to bogus non-government organizations (NGOs) linked to Napoles.
"The judge (Elmo Alameda) said he will resolve the motion for bill of particulars and in the meantime, he agreed to suspend the arraignment set on Monday," said Irene Garcia, a member of Napoles' legal team, in a text message.
Napoles is currently detained at the Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
