A 16-YEAR-OLD out-of-school-youth was shot dead by an unidentified man Wednesday morning at Ermita Proper, Barangay Ermita, Cebu City.
A resident in the area, Salvador Tapia, 51, told police that he heard a burst of gunfire followed by a shout “Agay!” (Ouch!) around 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Tapia immediately peeked through his window and saw the victim lying outside their pathway, prompting him to call for police.
Responding personnel of the Cebu City Police Office then found the victim lying along a riprap.
The victim (name withheld for being a minor) was declared dead on the spot. He sustained a gunshot wound penetrating through his right upper arm and body.
Police recovered a live bullet of .45 caliber pistol and a broken cellphone at the crime scene.
The mother of the victim said that her son was imprisoned for robbery last year and was released from jail more than a month ago. The police are eyeing this as the motive behind the killing.
Hot pursuit operation is ongoing to identify the gunman, while the victim’s cadaver was taken to Surelife Funeral Services. (Jerson B. Rufin and Akimie R. Losorata, PIT interns/Sunnex)
