11 hurt in Zambo grenade explosion-A A +A

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Eleven people were wounded when a grenade launcher that came from the position of the “Misuari-faction” of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) landed in front of a government office in Barangay Sta. Catalina, this city, around 5:30 p.m. of Friday.
The incident took place in front of the National Statistics Office (NSO) at Dr. Evangelista Street, Barangay Sta. Catalina.
The victims include five volunteers of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), two soldiers, two policemen, a human rights personnel, and a government personnel. They were rushed to the nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
The victims were seated in a corner behind a concrete structure when suddenly, a M-203 grenade launcher landed on their side.
The incident occurred at the height of exchange of fire between the government forces and MNLF rebels in nearby Sitio Lustre, Barangay Sta. Catalina.
Several minutes earlier, three slugs of caliber 50 machine gun coming from the rebels’ position hit and destroyed the glass panel at the east side of a shopping mall located along Don Pablo Lorenzo Street downtown. (Sunnex)
