Aquino offers P2M bounty vs Davantes killers-A A +A
Tuesday, September 17, 2013
PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III has placed P2-million reward money for anybody who could provide information for the capture of the killers of the young advertising account executive who was brutally murdered last week in Cavite, Malacañang said Tuesday.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) previously announced a P500,000 reward offer for information about the killing.
Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said Aquino called up Monday night Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. giving him instruction about the P2-million reward offer.
He said Aquino offered a bounty to show his resolve to identify the killers of 25-year-old Kae Davantes.
"It's not a question of disappointment. I suppose it's a question of inducing people to help identify the killers of— or the perpetrators of this heinous crime," Lacierda said when asked if the President was disappointed with the performance of the police in investigating the case, thus, he offered a reward.
Senator Cynthia Villar filed Senate Resolution 255, asking the PNP and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to bring the criminals to justice.
Also stated in the resolution were the deaths of Mary Grace Esguerra, an 11-year-old girl who was abducted and killed by a pedicab driver last March 2013, and Julie Calet, a high school student who was killed in her own home in Pangasinan last September 7.
"We believe that women are more exposed to danger and highly vulnerable to crimes, which should be the outmost concern of and immediately addressed by our law enforcement agencies," the resolution read.
Davantes' body was found by police in Silang, Cavite, on September 7.
Police said they believed Davantes died of strangulation and stab to the neck. Her cell phone and other possessions were not recovered. The car she was driving was recovered in Las Pinas one week later.
Davantes, senior account manager of MRM Digital Marketing Agency, was last seen with her friends in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig a night before the killing.
