MANILA -- President Benigno Aquino III is still in Zamboanga City despite the ongoing conflict between the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and government troops, Secretary Sonny Coloma of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) said Thursday.
“There’s an ongoing conflict and security protocol has to be observed but suffice it to say that the president has been monitoring all these developments, he has been performing all his duties as commander-in-chief and chief executive,” Coloma told reporters.
Coloma was at the House of Representatives Thursday morning for the budget deliberations of the PCOO in the plenary. The House seeks to approve the proposed national budget for 2014 next week.
At the PCOO website, President Aquino’s photo was last taken on September 14, Saturday.
“We seek the kind understanding of the media that we are not able to give very specific details about the President and his movement in Zamboanga City as we are aware it is a conflict zone,” Coloma explained.
The PCOO chief could not say when President Aquino is flying out of Zamboanga City.
“The President will decide according to his assessment on what action he should take,” Coloma said. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
