'Odette' intensifies into a typhoon-A A +A

CEBU -- Tropical Storm "Odette" (international name: Usagi) has intensified into a typhoon Wednesday night, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.
Pagasa has placed four areas in Northern Luzon -- Isabela, Cagayan, Calayan and Babuyan Islands -- under storm signal number 1 due to the typhoon. These areas will experience winds up to 44-60 kilometers per hour (kph).
The state weather agency said Odette continues to move west at 13 kph, with maximum winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150
As of 10 p.m. Wednesday, Odette was located at 700 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City.
The typhoon's estimated rainfall amount is from 15 - 20 millimeters per hour (heavy-intense) within the 500 km diameter of Odette, the Pagasa said.
Odette will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon that will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, and Mindoro. Residents in these areas are advised to be alert against flashfloods and landslides.
Sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Occidental Mindoro and Palawan and over the eastern seaboard of Luzon and of Visayas, Pagasa added. (Sunnex)
