Father shoots son-A A +A
Friday, September 20, 2013
A 42-YEAR-OLD father shot his son, who is now on critical condition, during a family drinking session Thursday dawn in Barangay Mantayupan, Barili, Cebu.
The suspect was identified as Marcos Cubar, while the victim was Jonathan Cubar, 21, single, both residents of Barangay Mantayupan.
Police said that the victim was having a drinking session with his father, mother Fabiana, and brother Casiano. Jonathan, however, got mad at his mother after the latter advised him to take a rest since he was already drunk, resulting in a confrontation.
Marcos came to defend his wife and admonished Jonathan, who in turn grabbed a “sanggot” (sickle) and attacked his father.
Marcos, however, parried the sickle, grabbed an improvised firearm loaded 22 live ammunitions, and shot Jonathan.
Jonathan was hit by the bullet on his upper nose portion between the eyes.
Marcos, who felt guilty, voluntarily surrendered to village councilman Godofredo Roma, who then contacted the suspect’s brother, barangay councilman Norberto Cubar.
It was councilman Cubar who turned the suspect over to the Barili Police station.
Jonathan was rushed to the Barili District Hospital but was later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Medical Center in Cebu City for immediate medical treatment. He remains in critical condition.
Fabiana surrendered the improvised firearm to the police.
Marcos is now detained at the Barili police station and is facing frustrated parricide. (Jerson B. Rufin and Akimie R. Losorata, PIT interns/Sunnex)
