BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- A Roman Catholic priest who was convicted in Argentina for sexually abusing a boy last 2009 has finally began a 15-year sentence in prison on Monday.
Father Julio Cesar Grassi was known in the country for persuading Argentine celebrities to donate to the Happy Children Foundation; however, some of the orphans in the foundation said the priest abused them in 1996.
After a top provincial court upheld his sentence last week, Grassi was taken into custody on Monday.
The 57-year-old priest still claimed that he is innocent. His final appeal to Argentina's Supreme Court will be made from behind bars.
Grassi was convicted four years ago, but was able to keep living near the orphanage while he appealed. (AP)
