MANILA -- Flashfloods and landslides threaten the Mindoro provinces and some parts of Palawan due to a Low Pressure Area (LPA) hovering west of Luzon, said a state weather forecaster on Thursday.
As of 10 a.m., the LPA was estimated based on all available data at 320 kilometers (km) west of Oriental Mindoro, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Pagasa said the weather systems will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over western section of Southern Luzon and Western Visayas becoming moderate to occasionally heavy over Mindoro provinces and Northern Palawan including Coron Island which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
Residents in these areas are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures.
Weather forecaster Chris Perez said the LPA has a high chance to develop into a tropical depression.
Once it intensifies into a cyclone, he said it will be named "Paolo," the 16th tropical cyclone to enter the country this year.
He added the LPA continues to move westward going towards Vietnam. (PNA)
