MANILA -- "Will you please be my wife?"
This was an odd question to hear during the rather serious deliberations of the House of Representatives on the proposed national budget of the government for 2014.
It was the last day of lengthy deliberations on the General Appropriations Bill and neophyte Magdalo Representative Francisco Ashley Acedillo had an inquiry taken up on the floor.
At that time, Maria Paz Ignacio Ocampo, his girlfriend, was seated at the VIP gallery before being escorted to the front of the session hall where Acedillo got down on one knee and popped the question.
"Ms. Maria Paz Ignacio Ocampo, will you please do me the honor, please be my wife?" Acedillo said.
Ocampo said yes.
The newly-engaged couple was congratulated by House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. who even teased that another congressman, Las Pinas Representative Mark Villar, should be next.
Meanwhile, the 2.26-trillion national budget was approved Saturday morning after a two-week marathon plenary debate. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
