Court operations in Zamboanga not yet normal-A A +A
Monday, September 30, 2013
JUDGES in conflict-torn Zamboanga City could not yet hold hearings at the Hall of Justice pending an assessment of the building, whose power connection has yet to be restored.
Court Administrator Midas Marquez said Monday judges checked the building while under escort. For the meantime, court employees hold office in the City Library to address queries from some litigants.
“Judges are also doing a headcount of personnel. There may be missing,” he said.
Marquez was expecting the judges’ report to be submitted to him also on Monday.
Court operations in the city have yet to return to normal despite the government’s pronouncement that the three-week standoff between soldiers and members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) ended over the weekend.
The firefight has already killed more than 100 people and displaced some 100,000 residents, about a tenth of the port city’s population. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
