DFA: Obama cancels trip to Manila-A A +A
Wednesday, October 2, 2013
THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Wednesday that United States President Barack Obama will not push with his trip to Manila this month due to the US government shutdown.
DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez said that Obama conveyed Wednesday morning to President Benigno Aquino III that "he regrets that he will not be able to push through with his visit to Manila this month."
"President Obama explains that this is because of issues relating to the US Government shutdown," he said.
Hernandez said that Aquino understands the decision of his US counterpart.
The DFA said that the Philippines and the US relations remain strong and forward-looking despite the recent development.
