MANILA -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) warned the public against scheming parties who may seek cash for Zamboanga City residents affected by the standoff in September.
DSWD Secretary Corazon Soliman said the government still has enough financial resources for the affected residents.
“We are not raising cash funds for Zamboanga as the government still has enough financial resources for the continuing relief operation there,” Soliman said.
Those who want to raise funds for Zamboanga may do so but as private individuals or groups, and should get the proper permit from the DSWD for this, she added.
Many Zamboanga residents were forced to flee their homes after Moro National Liberation Front forces tried to occupy parts of the city September 9.
The DSWD said the conflict affected 23,794 families or 118,819 people in 14 villages. At least 19,103 families or 102,401 people are staying in 38 evacuation centers. (JK/Sunnex)
