MANILA -- A low pressure area (LPA) entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) early Tuesday and the state weather agency is monitoring it to see if it will intensify into a cyclone.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA will be locally named Santi if it intensifies into a cyclone while inside PAR. It will be the 19th cyclone to enter PAR for 2013.
The LPA has may develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 to 48 hours, Pagasa forecasters said.
Its 5 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa indicated that as of 4 a.m. Tuesday, the LPA was estimated at 1,000 km east of Virac, Catanduanes.
On the other hand, it said the Intertropical Convergence Zone affects Visayas and Mindanao.
Pagasa's 5 a.m. bulletin said Visayas and Mindanao "will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms."
It added Metro Manila and the rest of the country may be "partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening." (JK/Sunnex)
