MANILA -- Classes in elementary and high school in both public and private schools in some Metro Manila cities will be suspended on Monday, October 14, due to an evangelical mission by the religious Iglesia ni Cristo (INC).
Classes in the following cities will be suspended: Manila, Quezon, Caloocan, Pasig, Pasay, Makati, Mandaluyong, Taguig, Paranaque, Pateros, San Juan, Muntinlupa, and Valenzuela.
Marikina, Navotas, Malabon, and Las Pinas will have regular classes on Monday.
Over 1.6 million people are expected to troop to various places in Metro Manila for the religious group's "Kabayan Ko, Kapatid Ko Lingap sa Mamamayan," which is a medical and dental missions.
The activity will be held between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada also ordered the suspension of classes in colleges, universities and schools in the city "as an act of extreme caution."
Estrada finds the recommendation of Manila Police District director Chief Superintendent Isagani Genabe to suspend the classes "to help in efforts to preserve peace and order and ensure public safety."
"Work suspension in all private and private offices in Manila shall rest in the discretion of their responsible officers," Estrada's Executive Order 31 reads.
