Chief Justice orders early dismissal in courts due to INC mission-A A +A
Monday, October 14, 2013
(Updated) CHIEF Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno before noon Monday ordered the suspension of work at the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals starting 1:30 p.m. amid the traffic jams caused by the Iglesia ni Cristo's medical mission.
In a tweet, the Supreme Court Public Information Office (SC PIO) said the work suspension also includes the Sandiganbayan and Court of Tax Appeals, as well as the courts of Manila and Quezon City.
"This is due to the INC medical mission which has affected traffic in both cities," the SC PIO said.
But it also requested that the courts maintain a skeletal force for the courts, "for purpose of receiving documents."
Earlier, Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez advised Manila judges to be lenient with respect to the attendance of parties and counsel in their scheduled hearings.
Marquez issued the reminder after noting that some Manila judges were already in the courtrooms.
Traffic had grown heavy in parts of Manila and Quezon City due to the INC's medical mission.
However, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority did not lift the number coding scheme for the day.
The Manila Police District (MPD) deployed 2,500 policemen for the event, which is expected to draw nearly two million people. (JK/Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
