MANILA (2nd update, 11:24 a.m.)-- A typhoon from the east entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) before noon Monday and was locally named Tino.

But Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Typhoon Tino, whose international name is Wipha, may exit PAR by Tuesday afternoon.

In its 11 a.m. advisory, Pagasa said Tino was estimated at 1,210 km east-northeast of Basco, Batanes as of 10 a.m.

Typhoon Tino packed maximum sustained winds of 160 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 195 kph, and is forecast to move north-northwest at 20 kph, it added.

Pagasa said Tino is expected to be 1,110 km northeast of Basco, Batanes or 990 east of Northern Taiwan by Tuesday afternoon.

It added Tino may bring rainfall of 7.5 to 15 mm per hour (heavy to intense) within its 1,000-km diameter, though Tino is not expected to affect any part of the country.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is still on red alert in anticipation of the cyclone. NDRRMC has been on red alert since Friday when it prepared for Typhoon Santi (international name Nari).

Meanwhile, Pagasa said the whole country may expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

"Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest to south will prevail over Luzon and coming from the southwest to west over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough," Pagasa said. (JK/Sunnex)
