Senate sets aside P6M for quake victims-A A +A
Wednesday, October 16, 2013
SOME P6 million taken from the savings of the Senate this year will be transferred to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DWSD) next week to aid victims of the magnitude-7.2 earthquake that hit Visayas on Tuesday.
"Next week, we will again review what other steps we can take in order to assist the rehabilitation of the affected areas," said Senate President Franklin Drilon in a chance interview Wednesday.
Drilon said it is up to the DSWD which areas will be given relief items using Senate funds.
Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., meanwhile, had said the House of Representatives will respond to the crisis once the chamber receives a thorough damage assessment.
Earlier, Senators Bam Aquino and Grace Poe proposed a multi-billion peso rehabilitation fund to help hard-hit provinces Bohol and Cebu to fully recover from the disaster. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
